Opt for secure mobility for its managers’ devices.

Theirs goals

  • Be able to access e-mails, personal organisers and contacts in a reactive manner, anytime, anywhere
  • Ensure maximum flexibility

The challenge

  • Stay connected with the company with control over the data

  • Guarantee an operational, ultra-secure solution

The very legitimate idea of staying connected with his company, office, contacts, emails and personal organiser via a mobile phone might seem very trivial for a manager whose work involves a lot of travel. And current technologies meet this mobility need efficiently.  The demand becomes problematic, however, when it comes from professionals of the financial sector. ING’s requirement was very simple: to offer its managers a device capable of providing mobile access to information in a really secure manner. “Together with Telindus, we went through all possible data access situations, coming up with a solution covering all eventualities down to loss or theft of the device, secure, and remotely managed and controlled for the sake of security,” said a delighted Didier Schneider - Manager Information Technology Services at ING Luxembourg.

The solutions

  • Provide a solution based on the Microsoft technology, System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008. All incoming or outgoing data are placed under the control of encrypted VPN tunnels linked to the main, secure ING server.

  • The installed applications are rigorously checked and locked, amply meeting the mobility needs when using a device for professional purposes.

The results

Place the user at the centre of the solution

With end-user ease-of-use a further criterion, Microsoft was the obvious choice. ING managers already using the Microsoft environment at the office get the same look and feel, navigation and access to their Word and Excel documents in the mobile version on their devices.  “The emails are archived via Microsoft Exchange, which is added value. This convergence is geared to the final user with utter ease, without any reconsideration,” Didier Schneider pointed out. Geared to the future and technological progress, this scalable solution meets other needs of the bank as well.

This innovation, pursued jointly by the ING Luxembourg IT department and Telindus ICT, was an ambitious challenge.  It is a very fine achievement and constitutes clear progress in the mobile technology sector.
